Son talent et sa position privilégiée auprès du roi lui assurent une grande réputation et permet de désenclaver cet art régional. Sorti de sa ville natale, il entre en contact avec les idées de la Renaissance italienne, découvre les œuvres des grands maîtres tels que Léonard de Vinci, Michel-Ange ou Raphaël, et assimile également l’art bellifontain issu de l’école de Fontainebleau. Ces rencontres artistiques influencent son travail qui se transforme et répond ainsi aux goûts de l’époque. Il s’inspire tout particulièrement de l’œuvre de Raphaël en copiant à plusieurs reprises sa version de la Fable de Psyché. In the 16th century, Léonard Limosin was one of the only representatives of the limousin art of enamelling at the court of France. Thanks to his talent and his privileged position to the King, he ensured himself a great reputation, which enabled the opening of this regional art to a larger audience. While traveling away from his home town, he got in touch with the Italian Renaissance, discovering the work of great masters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo or Raphael, and also assimilating the bellifontain art from the School of Fontainebleau. These artistic encounters influenced his work, transforming it in a way that it then suited the tastes of that time.
